Princess Victoria Eugenie was the only daughter of Prince Henry of Battenburg and Princess Beatrice, and grand-daughter of Queen Victoria. Her father died of fever while serving in South Africa in 1896. She married King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1906. On the way back from the wedding ceremony, an assassination attempt was made and Princess Victoria was very nearly killed by the bomb.
